Once
you have decided to make the leap – begins the tough stuff. There
are really two choices – applying to be a resident or being sponsored
to work over here. Obviously they both have their benefits! All details
can be found on the Australia Government – Department
of Immigration and Citizenship. The only advice I can really give
is do not use migration 'experts', the government process is very easy
to follow and does not incur extra charges. I have found all government
departments easy to get in touch with very helpful with questions and
advice – go there first!
We were sponsored on the 457 visa which met our requirements and allowed us the extra time to decide whether we wanted to become residents (if they take us!).
Once all the paperwork is in hand, it is time to book your flights. We decided to buy returns as they were virtually the same price as singles and it would allow us a holiday back with the family next year – read on for more information on flights and baggage.
